Body Language - Holiday

Brooklyn based Body Language animate their holiday contribution.

Office Romance - Twinkling Lights

"Our many different cultures notwithstanding, there's something about the holidays that makes the planet communal. Even nations that do not celebrate Christmas can't help but be caught up in the collective spirit of their neighbors, as twinkling lights dot the landscape and carols fill the air. It's an inspiring time of the year."

-Marlo Thomas

Smoky Knights - Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer

This is not a tune I ever expected to share here,

but I really like this version by Smoky Knights.

The darker sounding chorus is especially cool.

The Dollyrots - Because I'm Santa

The Dollyrots have released a few Christmas songs over the years.

This one is from 2012.

We showed you their Thanksgiving song last year.

Dragonette - Merry Xmas (Says Your Text Message)

Dragonette just released their fourth album.

This is their holiday tune from 2012.

Use headphones if you're at work.

Astrocolor - Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer

With a mellow electronic, ambient sound,

Astrocolor formed in Victoria, B.C. in 2015.

They plan on releasing a non-holiday album in 2017.

Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings - Ain't No Chimneys in the Projects

2016 continues to take its toll on musicians.

Fiery soul singer, Sharon Jones died yesterday.

The big C got her.

This tune from 2009 has become a classic.

Smoke Fairies - 3 Kings

Here is another of our annual Epiphany posts.

I'll bet you haven't heard this one today.

Cheap Trick - I Want You For Christmas

Congratulations to the newest members of

The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.

Menace Beach - Holidays Are Heavy

Wow, I love this song.

My old ears have no idea what she is singing, but it sounds great.

Is this even a Christmas song?

Donald Fagen - Snowbound

Here is a cool winter interlude for our friends

in New England, from half of  Steely Dan.

Lazy Heart Parade - Christmas In Bed

Lazy Heart Parade are a six piece alt-folk band.

Here is their contribution to the season.

"There are some people who want to throw their arms
around you simply because it is Christmas; there are other people
who want to strangle you simply because it is Christmas."
- Robert Staughton Lynd

Lola Dutronic - The Christmas Disco

I have been sitting on a couple good tunes,

just waiting for someone to make a cool video I could share.

This is one of them. Lola Dutronic, the electro-pop band,

first came to my attention in 2010 with their song

(Another) Christmas Without Snow. This is the new song:

And here is the significantly mellower older one:

Cocteau Twins - Wonderland & Frosty

Back in 1993 I was manager of a Musicland store in Illinois.

The record label rep from CEMA, who was well aware of my love for

wispy female vocals, slipped me this CD5. I still love these songs.

Soul Coughing - Suzy Snowflake

I'm sharing this one just because Super Bon Bon by Soul Coughing

is one of the greatest songs ever. This is their recording of

a Christmas relic paired with the ancient cartoon.

Cheap Trick - I Want You For Christmas

I'm not normally a fan of reworking lyrics to make a Christmas song,

but will make an exception for Cheap Trick. This tune

was made for one of those Very Special Christmas albums.

The Railway Club - Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)

A cool, mellow version of the Phil Spector classic.

Taken from this really great album.

Devo - Merry Something To You

Devo's Bob Casale has died.

Reading the news today reminded me of this:

The Snow Miser Song

Animator Arthur Rankin Jr. has died.

He and Jules Bass created some of the most popular

Christmas specials of all time.

Rudolph, Frosty, The Little Drummer Boy,

and of course, The Year Without A Santa Claus,

which featured this cool tune.

Piney Gir - Every Day's A Holiday

You say Christmas is over? Nope.

Every day's a holiday according to Piney Gir.

And here is another one I just found.

The Christmas tunes just keep on coming!
