Scott Weiland - Winter Wonderland

Former Stone Temple Pilots  frontman,

Scott Weiland, was found dead last night.

Here is a tune from what turns out to be his final solo album.

Donald Fagen - Snowbound

Here is a cool winter interlude for our friends

in New England, from half of  Steely Dan.

Lola Dutronic - The Christmas Disco

I have been sitting on a couple good tunes,

just waiting for someone to make a cool video I could share.

This is one of them. Lola Dutronic, the electro-pop band,

first came to my attention in 2010 with their song

(Another) Christmas Without Snow. This is the new song:

And here is the significantly mellower older one:

Cocteau Twins - Wonderland & Frosty

Back in 1993 I was manager of a Musicland store in Illinois.

The record label rep from CEMA, who was well aware of my love for

wispy female vocals, slipped me this CD5. I still love these songs.

Earth, Wind & Fire - Winter Wonderland

For their 21st studio album, Earth, Wind & Fire

took the holiday road. I've been looking forward

to this one for a while now, and it doesn't disappoint.

Paul Revere & The Raiders - Rain, Sleet or Snow

Paul Revere has died.

He and The Raiders released a Christmas album in 1967,

which featured this number:

Joe Sample - Snowflake

The great jazz pianist, Joe Sample died yesterday.

He recorded a pretty somber version of

I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus

for a smooth jazz Christmas album in 2001.

Here he is with the Jazz Crusaders:

Leon Redbone - Frosty The Snowman

I just recently became aware of "Leon Day."

Leon is Noel spelled backwards,

and Leon Day is June 25th, the halfway mark to Christmas.

Leon Redbone has a whole album of Christmas tunes,

so I should be able to milk this gimmick for a few years.

The Sisters Of Mercy - Driven Like The Snow

Yes, it is going to snow again tonight at Elves' Bells HQ.

This is the winter that will not end.

The Walkmen - While I Shovel The Snow

Guess what I'll be doing again today!

It was kind of cool to watch the Blackhawks

and the Penguins play a hockey game in a snow storm

last night, but I am really tired of all the shoveling this year.

The Lost Cavalry - Snow City Radio

Here's a great song about the dog days of winter,

from The Lost Cavalry.

If you like them, and your still in the mood for Christmas music,

they have a pretty cool mellow version of

Christmas Wrapping. (The Waitresses cover)

The Snow Miser Song

Animator Arthur Rankin Jr. has died.

He and Jules Bass created some of the most popular

Christmas specials of all time.

Rudolph, Frosty, The Little Drummer Boy,

and of course, The Year Without A Santa Claus,

which featured this cool tune.

Pete Seeger - Snow, Snow

The folk singer Pete Seeger has died.

Esquivel - White Christmas

The Mexican band-leader was all the rage back when

those fancy new hi-fis first came out.

If that's too far out for your taste,

check out this mellow take on the classic.

Dickie Valentine - Snowbound For Christmas

Posting this one today as we are experiencing

our first snow of the season at Elves' Bells HQ.

Better known for his acting skills,

Dickie Valentine had several UK chart hits in the 1950s.

This one hit #1 in 1955:

Marah - Christmas With The Snow

A white Christmas fills the churchyard.
- French Proverb
